JUSTYNA GABZDYL
About me
Polish-Canadian pianist Justyna Gabzdyl is acclaimed for her expressive artistry, refined musical intelligence, and stylistic versatility. A performer equally at ease in the classical canon and the contemporary avant-garde, she brings a sense of poetry and curiosity to every performance. La Presse described her as a “pianiste de taille” following her interpretation of Witold Lutosławski’s Piano Concerto with Orchestre 21 under Maestro Paolo Bellomia — a performance that highlighted both her virtuosity and her deep musical insight.
Justyna has appeared as soloist with ensembles such as the Toronto Sinfonietta, the Orchestre Interculturel de Montréal, and the Moldavian National Philharmonic Orchestra Serghei Lunchevici, and has performed in Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland. Her festival credits include the New Music Festival in Toronto and commemorative projects such as Chopin 2010, Lutosławski 100, and the Centennial of Poland’s Independence.
Her concert appearances have taken place in renowned venues including Salle Alfred Cortot, Salle Claude Champagne, Pollack Hall, Oscar Peterson Hall, Place des Arts, and the Canadian Museum of History, as well as at diplomatic missions across North America and in the Canadian Parliament.
A dedicated educator and cultural advocate, Justyna serves on the board of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in Canada and is a member of the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw. She holds a Master’s degree from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, continued her studies at the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris, and earned her Doctor of Music from the University of Montreal.
Her artistry has been recognized through awards and scholarships, including those from the Zygmunt Zaleski Stichting Foundation, the Polish Socio-Cultural Foundation in Quebec, the Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal, and the Denise Angers Scholarship for Excellence in Piano Performance. She has also received grants supporting music projects from several Canadian and Polish foundations.
Gabzdyl’s discography includes an album featuring the music of Karol Szymanowski and Fryderyk Chopin, and a single of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”, both released under the DUX label. Ever curious and open to new sonic worlds, she continues to explore intersections between classical, jazz-influenced, and electroacoustic music — forging a distinct artistic voice that bridges traditions and modern expression.
